what are your thoughts on this cd?? it seems to get ignored.
I think it wasnt as Good as slave, but it had its high points. theres quite a few songs I like on it, and its very heavy.
my enemy, firesign, beat yourself blind are Real good songs.

My favorite is Eileen, Breakin' Down, and Into Another. I love how eerie Eileen sounds. I wish Baz would make more songs like that. It kind of reminds me of Van Helsing's Curse (Dee Snider's band). I like beat yourself blind and My Enemy as well. Those songs have a lot of aggression and he sings them very well. His voice on this album is so clean and crisp. I love it.

I think the CD kicked ass. songs like Beat your self blind,Fire Sign,Into Another,Medicine Jar & Iron Will are all fist trusting head banging songs. I loved the fact that they where not trying to recreate the same record every time. IMO Slave to the grind is the best CD followed by the first one then Subhuman Race but the CD still kicks Ass. There's no doubt there was trouble brewing in the Camp & there seem to be a lack of effort in the Guitar solo but over all the CD is still great to listen to. The packaging is a bit strange IMO the front cover is rather boring but the songs are KILLER.

It's a totally underrated CD, I would say. They took on Bob Rock as the producer of the album, he was the guy who produced Metallica etc, if you remember how different Load sounded to the Black Album. I can listen to Subhuman Race all day, it's sufficiently different and original from the previous Skid Row albums and it should have done better than it did, I think it was largely critically slated, but you gotta remember it was released when hair metal had died a death and grunge was at it's peak, which I think didn't help. If it was released at the height of those days, or even today, I think it would be a different story.

I like it. I can't decide which one of Slave or Skid Row is number one, they both are and Subhumane is nr two then.
My favourite songs are: My enemy, Eileen, Into another, Breaking down. Those songs are amazing! I don't remember how Remains to be seen went but I can still remember all the words of Breaking down. I love that song and his powerful and clean voice.

As a whole, Subhuman Race is the Best Skid Row Album. It's the only Skid Row Album that I can listen to the whole setlist without skipping any of the songs.
Yeah, I Love Slave to the Grind, but more because of the classics(Monkey, Slave, Mudkicker and the ballads), but SBR as a whole(once again) is the best album.

I remember when I first bought the album when it first came out I was a bit "ho hum" about it, but over the years its definately grown on me to the point that I rate it with Slave To The Grind as their best. Some really cool songs on it and its a VERY underrated album.

it had some great songs, but it didnt have the heart or the soul like slave to the grind, all songs on slave where 10/10, as for the heavyness they where just as heavy as each other, you cant beat heavy metal classics like monkey business, slave to the grind, psycho love etc, slave was more of a traditional heavy metal album where as subhuman was more of a new sound metal, from skid row to 40 seasons there all hard rocking albums skid row was an amazing band and they where a great team

I love all the songs but IMO it seem to me like there was a lack of effort in the Guitar solos & I think the songs really did not have a progressive order almost as if they where thrown together. I like playing around with the set list when I play the CD but I always start it out with Beat your self blind.
I never have been a fan of the album's cover. The title Subhuman Race is really cool but the front cover IMO is rather boring especially compared to Slave to the grind & Be side our selves covers the first CD had a street style cover that matched the Killer Street Rock on the CD. Slave had the Best cover it really matched the artistic value of the songs inside.
If there was ever a CD that deserved to be repackaged & given another shot it's Subhuman Race I love it & think it was defiantly ahead of it's time.
Im cranking it now in this order. 01. Beat your self blind 02. Into another 03. Medicine Jar 04. Eileen 05. Firesign 06. Breakin Down 07. Frozen 08. Face against my soul 09. My enemy 10. Bonehead 11. Subhuman Race 12. Remains to be seen 13. Iron Will

thats true ace, i wonder what it would have been like if they maybe got a different producer, and had more of that raw edge guitar sound like in slave on subhuman race,
i agree with you on the solos and the packaging, it does look like no effort went into the front cover of the cd,
and the solos are good but could have been great, but i think it was also the time that hard rock and metal wasnt as strong as the grunge movement so i guess thats why they changed and went down a different path, also the lack of team work and more arguments wouldnt have helped,
i could be wrong because i dont know much about grunge music or like it,
but it is a shame, because i think if they aimed high back then like they did for slave i bet they could have come up with something similiar to slave 2 the grind maybe part 2, but they have to work as a team and if there arguin or others wanna do a different way then thats the last thing they would do,
angel down is a great example of team work and everyone aiming for the same way and trying there best, and quality metal then shows

I don't think it was Bob Rocks fault. He has produced some killer CD's & I really do love the work on Subhuman Race. The only problems IMO where the front cover, the lack of effort in the guitar solos & the order of the songs. I remember reading an article that was from Snake that said Bas really came through for us on this one. One thing that may have happen was because of the grunge movement Bob Rock went for a gloomy sound. Again I can't say it enough I love the CD. If it was given a new packaging & they through even just added the song "BURN" on it I would go buy it again. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`

i think the song line up in the album is ok.. it has some similarities to the debut album where they slot in one of the slower songs in the middle and the other one second to last .. like how 18 n life and I remember you were slotted.. I think ironwill is an awesome album ending song especially at the outtro with all of baz screams and seemed like the song was never gonna end..

Does anyone know why Baz never does any Subhuman Race songs live (or at least not in Oz)? Has he ever addressed this in an interview? He joked around about Subhuman Race at Sydney but still didn't do one of the songs (told us they were having an intermission and coming back and doing the whole subhuman race album). I am just wondering whether there is any reason behind the whole avoidance of it. I love that album - I probably like it more than the first album and that says something in itself. Eileen is one of the best Skid Row songs ever.

He played Frozen live when he opened for Twisted Sister in Poughkepsie, New York.
I also think he has done Beat Yourself Blind here in the US, but I can't remember what tour it was on.

Thanks for that Ace. Maybe the Oz sales for Subhuman Race (which was poorly promoted at the time) were bad and that is why he doesn't do it for us??? Who knows! If I ever get to meet him again I will try to remember to ask (though stringing a couple of words together in Sebastian's presence might be a hard task for me!)

It's not just hard to "string a couple of words together" even if you can talk. Baz barely lets anyone get a word in edgewise.

Thanks for that Ace. Maybe the Oz sales for Subhuman Race (which was poorly promoted at the time) were bad...... Very True. I was walking through the city back then and walked into a music store and saw SUBHUMAN RACE. I didn't even know it was out. From memory it came packaged with their debut album. I rate it as one of my favoutite albums. Probably SLAVE, SUB then SKID ROW. Shoot me down if you must but it just my opinion. ;D

I really love Subhuman Race. The lyrics go so deep and Baz his voice fits it perfectly. Great drumming work too from Rob
