personally, i dont think there is a bad song on this album, they went one notch up on heaviness compared to Slave.. but the quality of the songs were all still top notch.. Baz had a different vocal approach on the album.. (which if i remember correctly in a kerrang interview i read in 95 he said).. he was not so comfy with initially, as it made his voice sound quite bare.. But i really loved the sound of his screams in this album. and i think rob affuso's drum work on this album was the best ive heard as i didnt really fancy his work on the 1st album. despite the fact that they the album was made during a turbulent period of the skid row era, i really didnt hear it in the music.. what i heard was a band that enjoyed playing with each other.. I think subhuman race was really the last great skid row album.

I like this album. I was at album release party in NY when it first came out. Skid Row played almost all of it live that night. Did any of you hear the interview Baz just did on Boneyard with Eddie Trunk? Eddie went off on Baz for always saying "the first two Skid Row" albums. He practically ripped Baz a new one saying that SubHuman was his favorite of all the Skid Row albums. And he asked why Baz never played anthing from it. A flustered Baz answered "I've played Frozen" and Eddie just said something like OH C'mon" It was cool to hear.

It would be AWESOME if Baz & his new band played songs like Firesign,Iron Will,Beat your self blind Face against my soul... Subhuman Race is a great CD & with Mike,Johnny,Bobby & Rob these songs would KICK ASS live It would be cool if Baz could play a few songs from each album... & would also be cool if he did Take a look at me from his Kid Wikkid days I would love to hear the Bone yard interview

The release party was a show that they sold tix to. If I remember correctly, it was at Irving Plaza. Before the show started, the recorded music was just Subhuman Race. When SR came on they played most of the new record and a few of the older songs. It was a cool show.

For the interview, check Eddie Trunk.com He puts up a lot of archive stuff there.

I think Subhuman Race is an AMAZING album. It's one of the most underrated cd's of all time. I love the Skid show in Tokyo 1995. They played a lot of the (at the time) new songs. Subhuman (the song) live is killer. I totally love it, specially in the chorus, when Scotti does the backin' vocals 'youuuuuuu' (I love Scotti's voice). The way Baz sang that songs was unbelievable too. And Rachel played the fuck out of these songs. On that cd, Rob KILLED those drums. His drums were crying for compassion

Very much underrated.
I first got into Skid Row when i was about 11 or 12 after accidentally coming across a music video of Youth Gone Wild on the web. Now considering that was only about 5 years ago, all three albums were already released. So after watching that video in awe over and over for about an hour, i decided first thing the next day i would go to the record store and buy all the cds. The only one in stock was Slave to the Grind. So, much disappointed, i just got that. Fuck, I was in love. A couple days later i went back and they had Skid Row, but still no Subhuman Race. So i got Skid Row. First listen:huh? what happened to the heaviness? Second listen: Fuck, i'm in love. And then I went back every few days to check if they had Subhuman Race in stock, and finally about a month later they had it (special import). So i got it then raced home to listen to it. First listen: is this really Skid Row? Sebastian Bach sound so...different...but good...i guess. Second listen: Holy shitting fuck fuck, Can anything sound this good?! Yup, i was in love.

I used to think Slave was my favourite but now it's pretty close between that and Subhuman. The first album was great, but they just got better and better with the next two. It's impossible to say what's better.

I think its their best album because they went in a totally new direction, like they did with Slave after their first album.

I love everything they've done, including Subhuman Race. I don't really have anything to say that is negative about it.
The cover doesn't bother me; I care far more about the music anyways. However I know that Sebastian said that his father did artwork for it, but because of band politics it didn't get used. I know that he isn't a fan of the cover either.
My Comments on the songs are: In no particular order.
Beat yourself Blind my favorite song. It resonates with me; because my cousins are part Native and I grew up around Native people, since my mother worked with Native children through her work.
Firesign: I love this one, I'm a firesign too, Leo so the name is great. Plus it has one of my favorite lines in a Skids song, Doubt sees obstacles, but faith sees the way. I think you get to hear Bas beliefs a little in this song and it's great.
I also love how Firesign fades into Bonehead and Bas laugh at the start. I love this song it's so heavy and I Love it lyrically as well. Plus I always find myself saying: "Holy Fucking Shit" now.
Eileen: Is creepy, but you can really see it that is what's great about Bas singing, you can really picture what he's singing about sometimes. Also, I would love to play Eileen as an actor I think she would be a fun character to try and get inside of. Not on my favorite songs at first but it's grown on me.
Frozen: Again, great vocal delivery by Sebastian on this one. Every winter this one resonates with me, plus, I always feel so sorry for Rachel when I think about how he was feeling when he wrote it. Makes me a bit sad. Heavy song I love it.
My Enemy: Fucking great song to open the album with.
Iron Will: Great Fucking song to close the album with sounds insane musically and lyrically it reminds me of earlier songs on S. T.G and Skid Row. Heavy and again you get to hear what Bas Believes in.
Breaking Down: It makes my favorite Ballads list, however it also makes me kind of sad. Because I know it's really about the band back then. Great song though, there weren't enough songs written just by Snake. I would have loved more back in the day, not taking anything away from Rachel, but I love snakes songwriting as well. They make such a great team, but I would love to hear more songs from Just Snake lyrically especially. It seems like Rachel did the majority of the lyrics back in the day and today as well.
Remains is a great song, not much to say here, I love it musically and lyrically.
Into Another: When I first heard this song, it's funny, I was doing this thing in my theater movement class and it involved us getting in sync with each other as we walked around each other in circles by using only our eyes, I was listening to this song, and it really resonated because of what we were doing. So this one will always be special to me. I love the solo that Scottie plays as well.
Medicine Jar: Fucking great song.
Face against my soul: I think it's a great comment lyrically against all forms of discrimination. I love it when the guys write songs that are not just songs but actually have some social commentary to them as well. Plus I love Bas vocal work at the end and the laughter, especially Rachel's.
Subhuman Race: Not much to say about this one but it's a great song none the less. Also the last part at the end, I didn't even know it was there at first very cool. Kind of creeps up and surprise you.
That's my list, I don't know anything about production, I really just go on lyrics, I think that lyrically the guys writing had really grown and evolved from the first album. This is a deeper album lyrically in a lot of ways. Musically I enjoy it as well; there are great moments on this record.
I wonder what it would have sounded like if the guys had worked with Wagner on it. None the less a great album all around. Makes me kind of sad though that it was the last one together, but so be it. Should have done better if you ask me.
