Hello you SMF's out there!
It's now Tuesday and I must say that im sorry for not posting sooner. I spent the last few days stumbling around with the Flu...NOT in BED, NOT SLEEPING - Just TRYING to rest. That never really happens these days...
Thursday night I set out with Duane from the crew and AJ. We wanted to get up to Poughkeepsie the night before so we were not faced with driving there on a Friday.
We headed out Thursday night and reached our hotel 5 hours later. Sucks when you take the truck route with all the gear etc....
Friday morning came around and by 8:00am we were up and making our way over to the Civic Center. The lighting and sound company got there at 7:00am to load in.
I spent most of the day in the production office. Having 4 bands on the bill and having booked 2 of them (Sebastian and Twisted) my hands were a bit full.
George Lynch showed up early and was totally cool. We talked a bit, he laughed about the old days and I thought to myself, here is another guy who must have sold his soul to the devil because he looked better than he ever did!
I passed Yngwie Malmsteen several times and we both gave each other a nod. He and I eventually spoke to one another about 30 minutes before he took the stage. He was pleasant and his band were really nice guys as well. I know his drummer Patrick from years gone by so it was great to see some old friends again.
Sebastian showed up like a hurricane with Wolf Hoffman of ACCEPT. Every step of the way Sebastian's energy was intense. I think what happens here is, as he walks past people he sucks the life out of them and gains all of their energy! This guy is on 10 all the time! Gotta love it!
Vh-1 showed up around 5:00pm. They had contacted us about filming segments for this 3 hour special called THE HISTORY OF METAL - They wanted to capture clips of Twisted Sister getting ready, vocalizing, applying their makeup the whole work out routine and what it takes to become TWISTED SISTER before a show. Of course, once the band started to play, they wound up filming more than they expected. They said they loved the show and just got caught up in the filming - great! They were there for about 8 hours! This means we may see a good 4 minutes on TV!!!! - LOL - Let's hope it's more!
Twisted Sister did not sound check. In fact the only ones who did were the crew and AJ. Lately, AJ has been on an AC/DC kick so they blasted through AC/DC songs with AJ singing!
The rest of the guys came in between 5:00-7:00pm. The band made a point to say hello to all the other bands and then headed for the dressing rooms to get ready.
George Lynch took the stage at 7:20pm and this was his FIRST show on his tour with only 4 rehearsals! I think they did a great job and I hope to work with George again soon!
Sebastian took the stage shortly after and did all of his hits crammed into a 45 minute set. Having Wolf Hoffman by his side the whole night as a special guest the set was topped off by throwing in BALLS TO THE WALL by Accept! Great show guys! Sebastian never lets us down!
Yngwie took the stage next with enough fog/smoke to make London skies look clear again. Yngwie played for 50 minutes and didn't miss a lick. My only complaint I guess was there wasn't enough Marshall stacks on stage! (Sarcastic). Poor road crew! LOL
Next up - The one, the only, the legendary, and still all 5 original men wearing makeup - TWISTED SISTER!!! The show was incredible. With the audience having to wait and watch 3 bands first they hardly seemed jaded at all. The crowd was great. It's so cool to watch the audience react from where we stand. It was truly a great night. I don't have the set list in front of me and I know that if you scroll down the board its already been posted. I didn't get to catch all of the show as I was doing paper work regarding the night in the office.
After the show we had a meet and greet with about 100 people. The band came out, signed and took pictures with as many people as they could. Donna surprised me with a gift and a kick ass birthday cake with a Twisted Sister logo on it that read - HAPPY BIRTHDAY DANNY - LOVE SMF'S WORLDWIDE! -The cake was so cool I wouldn't let anyone cut it! I took it home just so I could take pictures of it for all of you to see. (Now to figure out how to post the photos online - HELP!!!)
OK, like I said on top, today is Tuesday and I have a ton of work. Tomorrow is meetings with Jay Jay. Then off to a meeting with FOREIGNER as I am booking them in Europe and may be their new tour manager on some dates. Then a meeting with another company to discuss Ritchie Blackmore! I also heard from Blackie Lawless yesterday and WASP will do an East Coast run in Feb/March. Next week Dee and I have Van Helsing's Curse meetings to discuss a bigger and better 2006 etc..Did I forget anything? Oh yes, Christmas is around the corner which means Bent Brother!!! Hmmmm...Maybe I should go to a rehearsal to see what they are up to!
SEE YOU ALL DECEMBER 16th AT THE STARLAND BALLROOM IN NJ
DONT MISS THIS ONE!
One more thing I DID NOT FORGET ABOUT THE JACKETS - THEY WILL BE READY SOON. I hated the logo on the back and had them redo it! I want you guys to wear this jacket proudly! Hope to have them ready next week for ordering!
All the best to everyone out there. Thank you for my birthday wishes, thank you for always posting, thank you for being there not only as fans but as friends, Sick Mutha Fuckin Friends that is!
Trust me....more to come!
