The Alex LeVasseur Memorial Scholarship Program assists Nashville's frequently overlooked and underprivileged youth by motivating them in school and in life. Jeffrey Steele and his family created the Alex LeVasseur Memorial Scholarship Program at The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, in conjunction with Rocketown/Sixth Avenue Skate Park in Nashville, after Steele's 13-year-old son passed away January 28, 2007 in a tragic accident. Steele and his family are very involved in the program, which has already made a significant impact on its participants.
Jeffrey Steele & Friends marks the first of two events the LeVasseur family puts on each year in memory of Alex. The second is an outdoor skate and music festival, slated for June 28, 2009. For more info on the event and scholarship program please visit www.rememberalex.com/.
Rocketown provides a safe, alcohol- and drug-free environment for youth to enjoy concerts, classes, videogames and skateboarding. Participant circumstances span the range of neglect, abuse, poverty, absent parents and normal peer pressures. Through a central location, unique programming, and scholarships for disadvantaged youth Rocketown creates an environment that is both diverse (racially, culturally and economically) and accessible for teens and their families. www.rocketown.com/
About Jeffrey Steele / www.jeffreysteele.com/
Songwriter, artist and producer Jeffrey Steele has become a Music Row fixture--one of contemporary country's most beloved characters. Today's top selling artists have come to trust the energetic songwriter with the easy, infectious grin. Rascal Flatts, LeAnn Rimes, Montgomery Gentry, Gretchen Wilson, Pat Green, Trace Adkins, Tim McGraw and numerous others have all turned to the two-time BMI Songwriter of the Year for a hit or two. Steele's own impassioned performances make him a constant favorite at songwriter festivals and his own full band gigs, where his rugged, boisterous vocals breathe new life both into songs made famous by the stars and other tunes that are patently his.
