The one that I relate the most to is "Wasted Time". One of my best friends at the time had been going through an absolutely horrible period in her life...I met Kim through my boss, who was her mother. We grew very close very quickly. However, she had a major prescription addiction that the doctor (a psychiatrist) fed to her. I actually took a look through them after I took her to an appointment and was horrified. Oxycontin, Percocet, Valium, Colonopin, Ativan, Xanax.....I have no idea why this psychiatrist was prescribing this...and Kim had a problem with taking her doses correctly as well - she'd take her meds, then forget she took them, so take them AGAIN, etc...and this doctor knew it. I'm a prescription addict myself, but there is nothing I can do about it. The medicines I take I *have* to take. All I can do is be extremely careful and I do tend to disregard the directions on the narcotics - taking less than I am supposed to. However, Kim and I were sitting in my car in June of 2002 outside of her pharmacy and I told her that if she didn't get a handle on it, then I'd be attending her funeral before Labor Day - and 6 weeks later, I attended her funeral. She ended up in the hospital having to have her stomach pumped from OD'ing on Valium on a Thursday. The hospital refused to admit her. She agreed to her mother and I that she'd seek help...so she goes and sees this psychiatrist again, on Friday, who put her on methadone. But instead of having her go to a clinic or even just writing it for the one pill with refills so there was no chance of her taking too much, he prescribed 30. At once...knowing her history of over-medicating. The same ER doctor who refused to admit her on Thursday night was the one who pronounced her dead on Monday morning. Her autopsy showed she had taken 16 tablets - which she had such a high tolerance to her other meds, she could do, but having no tolerance to methadone, it killed her. Kim left behind 3 little children. Her son is autistic, and her daughters have been split into 2 different households - her ex-husband's, and her current husband's. I miss my friend. I was 28, and she was 29 when she died. I think of her daily - and I did the best I could to support her mother, my boss, who was also (and still is) my friend. Anyways, that's my lengthy rambling on why I relate to it as much as I do: it sums up the waste and loss of a beautiful person, both inside and out, due to drugs.  |

I relate to "Youth Gone Wild" The first verse... Since i was born they couldn't hold me down, another misfit kid another burned out town I never played by the rules and i never really cared My nasty reputation takes my everywhere It's mainly that verse that i relate to alot...i was like that back in my teen years and today i'm still a misfit...a little more toned down now that i'm a mom...LOL  ;D |
