I wonder what drives an artist like Sebastian Bach to stay as a solo artist, whereas you see other singers bounce from band to band?
David Lee Roth for all intents and purposes was originally the lead singer of Van Halen (no one knew him as anything else, that was his first band as far as everyone knows) but after Van Halen, he stayed a "solo artist", instead of trying to start up another band.
Sebastian, same thing petty much.
Then you take someone like Sammy Haggar who started out solo, then went to Van Halen, then solo again, then Van Halen, then solo again.
And for lack of a better example, Gary Cherone went from Extreme, to Van Halen, to Tribe of Judah etc. and never became a 'solo artist'.
Just thinking out loud.
On one hand, it would be semi comforting to be in a "permanent" band. You ahve your bandmates to fall back on, your family.
On the other hand, constantly working with different people brings different experiences. Less "safe" I suppose.
I guess my point is, I wonder why after Skid Row, Sebastian didn't try and start another "band", instead of going out as a solo arists? Or did he? Sorry don't know much about his post-Skids history.

Because as a solo artist, you are the one in charge. You are the boss and can replace or substitute band members. Elvis was never in a band, but had hired band members. Neil Diamond, Meatloaf, Richard Marks, Rod Stewart, Ozzy after Sabbath, etc. etc. You get what I'm saying. That's my opinion any way.

Josh, when did Sebastian Bach® register his name as a trademark?
I just noticed that when I got my Frameshift 2 CD. The ® beside his name in the CD booklet.
Whenever he did that was probably the point he decided to become, and STAY, a "solo artist".

Jeeze. That was years ago. I'm not sure of the specific time. Maybe someone else here knows the exact time but I'm sure it was still in the skid row days. All I know is you can't use his name or likeness without his approval. Kind of makes you wonder about those FS2 posters doesn't it? Josh

All I know is you can't use his name or likeness without his approval. Kind of makes you wonder about those FS2 posters doesn't it? Josh Whoooooah hold on now. Dude, seriously, if you don't have the maturity to answer one of my questions without a "Geez" or a condescending attitude, why even bother? It was an honest queston. OROr sorry Josh if I took you the wrong way. It just sounded like another post made in a snit. So my apologies beforehand if it was not intended that way. Just usually when someone starts off with "Jeez..." that's not a good sign. And about MY Frameshift 2 posters, I did those as a fan. I am not selling them. Did you happen to notice that most of them FEATURE Sebastian Bach? What can I say, his photos were the coolest. I did those on my own time for free as a fan. And I am proud of them. And incidentally Sebastian approved all of his photos used in the Frameshift 2 media kit. Or so I have been told. The same photos I used in my posters. So ProgRock is well within their boundaries selling a poster with Sebastian's photo on it when he himself approved the imagery. I asked Shawn Gordon about that last week in a post on Henning's board (because someone else, another designer, was asking for the same media kit to do his own fan-created stuff). And I am well within my limits as a fan to use those images in my posters if I am not selling them for any kind of profit or gain. Looking at the Skid Row album artwork, I don't see a Registered Trademark beside his name in there, so it must have been after he left the band (would be my guess) Doing that (registering your given name as a trademark) is very savvy, something like Gene Simmons would do.

You made the insinuation -- they are using Sebastian Bach's likeness without his permission -- and I was just correcting you. I covered MY posters AND the official FS2 posters that were created by ProgRock Records. To answer your question, NO, it doesn't make me wonder about those Frameshift 2 posters because I work in that field and I know the legal boundaries of copyright and consent. And I was told that everything in the media kit was approved by Bach. Unless you can prove otherwise -- that they are using his image without his permission -- why would you even insinuate something like that?
