thats why skid row rocked back in the day, because they had 5 amazing musicians who worked well together, rob afusso and sebastian are missed, that drum solo shows you just how underated some drummers get, its a shame they split up, because i bet they could of done some more slave to the grind type albums with that traditional heavy metal sound, subhuman was ok, but no where near as good as the 1st 2 albums, rob affusso is one bad ass drummer, if it was up to me i would try and get rob affusso back with sebastian, because they worked well together, or even the whole original skid row back together, and create another slave to the grind sound, but they all got diffrent things and at least we had some unforgetable heavy metal albums from skid row

They were not like band such as Warrant or Dangerous Toys. Skid Row was much heavier! And so is Subhuman Race |

While I am certain that his present band are great musicians (I know nothing about playing the guitar or drums, so don't really have the technical expertise to determine what necessarily makes a great drummer or guitarist etc), to my ears, the old Skid Row can't be beat. To my ears, Snake and Scotti are fabulous guitarists, particularly Scotti whose playing is so melodic (in the same vein as Neil Schon of Journey. I prefer melodic hard rock guitar players in the Neil Schon vein) and Rob is a true metal drummer, despite the fact that he claims otherwise. More important than musicianship and being a virtuoso, though, is just the chemistry in the band. It was a different time, but the members of Skid Row seemed to just belong together: all a bit rough, hungry, young, energetic with some attitude. Great bands are not just about how good the drummer is, how good the musician is or whose backing band they play for. In the end, it is about that intangible quality that you can't put your finger on. Skid Row had that. |
