The question will seem weird to you but what does exactly mean the chorus of '18 & life' ? :/ I understand the words but I don't really get the meaning...

18 and life - you got it - does this means the guy had all his life before his crime ?
18 and life - you know -
Your crime is time and it's - does this mean it's time to pay for his crime ?
18 and life to go - does this mean the guy get a lifetime sentense in prison ?

We should analysed rock songs in english class instead of learning things that are useless in practical life :/

Oh, it was not Sebastian who wrote the lyrics for '18 & life', they first finished the song (Rachel and Dave if I remember correctly) and after a while, they sent it to him.

You know, I also wanted to purpose a discussion about the meaning of ALL the (SR and any SB) songs, becuase as a not native english speaker, and above it all, a whole lot of slang involved in the lyrics, I somethimes feel like not understanding the point.

Maybe we should open a new topic, with a thread for each song? What dou you guys think?

Oh, I forgot, I would say that '18 & life, you got it' means 'you have nothing else but your youth, witch you don't know what to do with', like 'you feel lost, and don't know where's the door'.... and '18 & life you know' means 'you don't know anything', 'you're still very young and ignorant'....

Thanks for the explanation. That's maybe a good idea to open a thread about the meaning of the songs. I have a slang dictionnary so I figure out the understand most of the time. And finaly that's some easy words who are a problems lol like '18 & Life' ;D

They both mean the same thing. Ricky, who is 18, is going to prison for the rest of his life.

I'm not sure this kind of topic is a good idea. Literal explanations don't always apply, and some songs bring out just feelings that have nothing to do with the "meaning" of the song. I think all the songs should just be left to the listener's intepretation.

Gotta look at the WHOLE lyric if you wanna catch the meaning of it i think .... and as said before, the interpretation of a song is usually a personal matter .

That's like 'Monkey Busines', I understand the expression, but what means 'if I have no monkey on my back' ? I'm sure that's not the animal that he have on his back

"you got it" means "Do you understand" got it - understand?

Monkey off my back means a boss,debt,drugs etc. that you would like to disapear from your life.
