Sebastian Bach Tallin Estonia 6th June 2008
It was Valentine’s Day when I saw on Sebastian’s MySpace that he’s coming to Europe. My greatest Valentine’s Day ever. In Finland that’s called “Friend’s day” so it has a bit different meaning. I booked every show near me, hotels, flight, fast Xpress boats, etc. One month before this Tallinn show my friend cancelled and told me that she can’t go. I heard afterwards that she was in London to see Bruce Springsteen then… One other friend was supposed to go to Tallin with me but she got a high fever. I heard about that at 9pm on 5th June. I rang to my husband that this chick is going alone to Tallin to see The Best Rocker in the world. Naturally he wasn’t so pleased with that idea but knew there’s no use to say anything against it. He knew that I had made my mind. Then I thought that I had paid so much already for tickets to show, hotel, and boats so I could give someone a free trip. I started calling to my friends around about 10 pm. My cousin would have loved to see Sebastian but she’s mother of three kids so she said it’s impossible because the boat left Finland’s coast on 10.30 am next morning. After many phone calls and about four hours later I finally had booked a baby- and a dog sitter so my husband could go to Tallinn with me. He was on graveyard shift on that night and he had woken up that morning (Thursday) early because of our house project. Next time he got to bed was Saturday 1pm.
Later that night I had to pack mine, husband’s and daughter’s bags. I wrote a A3 paper that night: Hi Sebastian! U Rock and decided to show that paper in every show in Tallinn, Tampere and Oulu.
I slept four hours and we were heading to the boat. We threw things to hotel and ate good food in hotel’s 8th floor restaurant with sea view and I was wearing a Sebastian Bach T-shirt. Naturally. My husband slept one hour while I was doing my make up and hair for that night. We headed to Pirita Ruins with beers. They opened the doors 5pm and I was there 6.15pm. There wasn’t that much people then so I occupied a higher stone and sat on that while openers played their music. My husband asked me to go for a beer with him but I didn’t want to leave that place and I didn’t want to run to toilet during Baz’s show.
First warm up band was Finnish Mind of Doll and the second was Estonian House of Games. While those bands played I saw a man who was wearing an Angel Down T-shirt with European dates 2008. And sure I ran to him and asked where did you buy it. He hadn’t bought that anywhere because he was Baz’s sound technician or something like that – he stood on right side of the stage during Baz’s show. Finally came Sebastian Bach and the guys. They opened the set with Back in the Saddle, then was Here I am and ended with Youth gone wild and Angel Down. Other songs were pretty much same that I wrote on Oulu’s review except they didn’t play Slave to the grind in Tallinn, only Monkey Business from the Slave album. The set was about 1h 40min.That show was in awesome place (Monastery ruins) while sun was shining and little wind and that place was pretty packed. Sebastian looked happy. Damn I like his smile so much!! And his singing is so perfect in every show!! I really don’t know how he can do it. But he’s professional, talented, cute and handsome. Back to the point: I didn’t know then that they had to cancel Sweden Rock day before Estonia. I bet they were still upset with that but it didn’t affect on Tallinn show. They are so professional. In my opinion Sebastian Bach is the best lead singer in the world.
I was standing on that stone during the show so I saw Baz and boys well. I showed my Hi Baz! You Rock! –sign and he smiled to me. (or I want to believe that he smiled to me) While I was standing on it I had a little problem because of the wind: I was wearing a skirt so I had to hold it down. I didn’t want that wind would cause so called “Marilyn” effect. I couldn’t jump on that stone because I was afraid of falling down from it but I kept my fist in the air during the set and waving my hand. And the other hand was keeping my skirt down.
In Tallinn sound wasn’t so clear in the beginning but they got it much clearer later. I sang, yelled and screamed so much so that my throat was soar after the show. During the show Baz said that he had never been in Tallinn before. He had been in Moscow, Finland but never in Tallinn, Estonia. We talked about that after the show with my husband and actually dear Baz, your “technically” wrong. When you visited Moscow, Soviet Union in 1989, Estonia was still part of S.U. until 1991. Estonia has developed much since those days and nowadays is a nice place to visit. And in my opinion it’s still pretty affordable country even the prices has increased much in couple of years. For an example I paid about 7 euros for two ciders and sandwiches and in Finland you can get hmm… one big cider with ice and maybe a smile…
After show there were fireworks and we watched that from the bridge. I tried to check out where is the backstage but I didn’t find it. The area was quite large and there was a fence around it so we decided to go back to the hotel. In Pirita Top Spa hotel we had some red wine and went straight to bed. We slept about five hours and woke up before they had breakfast in hotel. While we walked to the taxi we met some old Finnish couple (around 75) and they were upset because sauna wasn’t ON before 7am. Yep… Finns.
Thank you Sebastian for the great show in Tallinn, Estonia!
