Hey there! Yeah things are terrible up in Queensland. Lucky for me im thousands of miles away in Melbourne, however yes I know that Aussiegirl has had to deal with the floods....as far as I know her home wasnt flooded, however she moved to higher ground and was ok, although I havent heard from her for a day or 2....I dont think it was too bad where she is, I hope not anyway. All ive been doing is watching it on the TV and feeling so sorry for those people up there effected by all this. It really is devestating. They say that 30,000 homes will be flooded over the next 24 - 48 hours. My Neice has a house up there with her boyfriend and that is in an area called Ipswich which I have just heard has 3000 homes under water, so id say she will lose her house. Her car is gone, that got swept away this morning.....luckily they are down here in Melbourne on holidays so they are fine....but the house isnt. I'll try and contact Aussiegirl today and find out how she's going. This is a link to the main Brisbane Newspaper which is giving a good account and updates on whats going on if anyone is interested: www.couriermail.com.auHows this for a quote : "19,700 residential properties and 3,500 commercial premises in 2,100 streets are likely to be flooded in the city." Its not good folks

I know first hand how awful it can be (although the floods in England haven't been on the same scale as those in Australia). You guys are in our thoughts.

Yes, I'm worried about Pinball Wizard too. He lives in Rio de Janeiro and mentioned once that he lives out of town in the suburbs. Last time he was OK and I hope it's the same this time. Can you please let us know if you're OK Wizard if you read this?
As for Aussiegirl, I've been glued to the TV (24hr coverage) and Internet here in Melbourne to find out all I can about what's happening in the Ipswich area where she lives. I'm relatively certain she hasn't been flooded out as she lives on a hill and she said others lower down were coming up to her home before the power was cut off in that area. I don't want to ring her to find out how she is so I don't waste whatever resources she might have left on her mobile phone as I'm sure she'll need that to find out about friends and family.
But no doubt it's difficult with a crowded house, no power, short food supplies (?), etc. I'm worried for her and her family with the after effects as much as anything as her hubby probably won't be able to get to work, the kids school and the clean-up efforts for her friends and neighbours will go on for months. I have no doubt Aussiegirl and her family will be in the thick of it helping out in any way she can.
Just the stress physically and emotionally will be huge for them all, so please keep sending your positive thoughts and prayers her way for them all. I'll text her when I know the power's back on and let you know what she says.

Just wanted to check in and let everyone know that my family and I are ok.. Thank you everyone for your concerns it is all very sweet... when Dogface and Ember said to me people on the bach board where worried it did really touch me... Sorry Dogface I could not get on facebook to tell you I got your messages and ember the mobile lines have been crazy dropping in and out have been getting frustrated trying to type you a message then it will not send it and I HATE texting you know how long winded I am texting just does not cut it... So thought I would update here and then give facebook ago cause I still have no internet... Well we were in amongst the thick of it where I live we have Wivenhoe Dam that was built after the 74 floods and it is designed to stop the floods but we had so much rain lately they had to release dam water... so between that and the rain it was very very scary... I am up on a hill and so I was very lucky but the most scary night of my life I stayed up all night cause you could hear the river but in the dark could not see it... Now that is such a scary feeling... now from my place I have NEVER seen the river in amongst the trees... but Tuesday morning sunrise I am out there and I now can see the river creeping up the side of the mountain which I live I see half the town underwater and I can see the dam gates which again I have never seen before... I did really freak out my poor husband had to calm me down... and the rain just was not stopping... finally Wednesday Morning it did and we have had sunshine since... They are still really concerned about the Dam cause they are predicting more rains to start again soon... the dam at the moment is at 100% and they have the flood protection dam and that is at about 50% at one stage it was at 98% so a very big danger of spillage and then the dam wall collapsing.. seriously scary stuff... I had 5 family's staying with me on and off cause we where one of the few that had power and water and for a time Phone and net... cause we where right near the evacuation centre and police station so keeping power and water on that grid was a necessity so we where lucky there... we lost phone lines on Tuesday and finally got them back on Friday But I had a bill due on the Monday and of course with no net no where to pay it in town and not able to get out of town and truthfully not a big concern of mine at the time I forgot... but anyway telstra disconnected my phone and internet anyway.... I must admit that nearly sent me over the edge but have been staying strong I mean seeing the devastation around you it is kinda selfish to get upset about your internet and phone... just peeved at telstra who disconnects peoples phones in times like this? Being a small town the news just gets worse every day cause everyone knows everyone and I have heard some really sad stories and there are still alot of people missing and trapped it really is like a war zone choppers flying everywhere watching people get air lifted from there roofs was just surreal.. really this is going to be the hardest part though now we do have a shortage of food like your bread and milk etc we did stock up before hand so we are alright for now but we forgot about getting money out of the bank for about 4 days we had no access to money and anything you could find was cash only... we where just lucky between us all we had stocked up on the essentials and must admit we have been very creative some nights we have had up to 20 people for dinner tonight was the first night of just us four... but it is all just surreal we had a bread van highjacked the other day coming into town? but people are scared cause things are still bad out here as the water goes away you can see how much damage was done the clean up is going to take a long long time and there will be a food shortage cause so many farms got wiped out and the fruit and vege market... My husband has been flat out helping people cause we have had a few friends who where not very lucky it is hard I cannot do as much as I would like with three kids but I feed people and today my house was referred too as the coffee shop... Tomorrow I am off to help a friend who had a little bit off flooding I can take the kids to her place... and then Wednesday my husband should finally be able to go back to work cause he has not been able to get out of town before this... Not sure if the kids will start back at school next week I have nothing ready for that... but when they do I will go thru everything I have here and see what I can donate to those that really need it... Just all so very very sad.... but grateful my family and I are still alive... Ok sorry for the mammoth post just wanted to fill everyone in and thank you so much for all the warm wishes and concerns XXXOOOO

Hey great to hear that you and your family are ok! HUGS!! just peeved at telstra who disconnects peoples phones in times like this? Me too! How can they do that?! Incredibly stupid and selfish from them. Like people didn't have any bigger problems. I have many big boxes of baby/kids clothes I'd give away. If your country was any nearer us I'd send my help that way. I need to donate money. I hope things will get be normalized asap. Thank you for informing us!

Awe Aussiegirl thank you so much for logging in. I can't imagine how hard this has been on you and all of your fellow neighbors and countrymen. We are very relieved to hear you are okay, that your family is okay.
I would tell the phone company to kiss it, that was rude of them. Who thinks of paying their bills when you are just trying to survive.
It sounds very scary and like there is much yet to do. Our hearts and prayers are with you and everyone in Australia.
I kept wondering how you and Dog, were doing. I didn't yet know Ember was also an Aussie, I just kept thinking, that you have little kids and how hard and scary that would be. To try and keep your kids safe while doing your best to keep it together. I just wanted you all to know, we may be far away but we truly are wishing you the very best. I didn't know where any of you lived, just that you were Aussie's. If you need anything holler. Hugs

Hey all, yeah that cyclone was pretty incredible. Thousands of miles away from me, and a long way from Aussiegirl as well I believe, but the state that had the cyclone, Queensland, is the same state that just had the floods, although it was in a different part of the state...they cant take a trick up there at the moment, its been unbelievable to see whats happened there over the past month or so....not good, they need a change of luck thats for sure.

Yeah Mick's ok, hes even further away from Queensland than I am! He's been posting on Facebook, hes a cool cat, nothing fazes Mick.
Havent heard from Pigeonwing for ages, but she's in Melbourne, same as me, so again, nowhere near where all the action has been.
