I was discussing Skid Row & the question came up that 18 & life is a ballad. While the song has great melody I just don't think it's a ballad. Tom me it's an emotional Hard Rock song. What do you freaks think? My friend "Bug" says dude it a Ballad get over it but I disagree....... Some thoughts please

It ain't a ballad completely. Its melodic, its a story, and it rocks.

I can see why some would think it were a ballad. An obvious ballad is "Remember", but "18" is different, although I can't put my finger on why. It is slow in the way that most ballads are but it also seems to have a groove and rough edge that a lot of ballads don't have. When I first heard "Remember" back in 89, my first impression was that it was a power ballad. When I heard "18", I don't think I saw it as a ballad. The video may also have something to do with that because it is a rebellious video. To me "18" is like "Quicksand Jesus" in a way. Both have slower tempos, but there is an edge and a groove that separates it from the typical power ballad.

I think that's a great way of honouring the young victim's fate. Also, the video follows the story of the song, which I think is cool. Nothing wrong with the video for an eighties one, either.
